Hunter Biden was found guilty on all counts of his weapons charges stemming from his lying on a gun permit application about his drug use. This follows his initial plea deal that Republicans at the time called a sweetheart deal which resulted in the deal being removed and proceeding to court.
The VERY vocal Republican cacophony or outrage about Hunter Biden’s plea deal (which are made everyday with tens of thousands of people in court cases) could have been called politically motivated given the fact that they haven’t said a single word about any other plea deal in the U.S., but it wasn’t.
President Biden could have claimed political persecution of his family as a GOP attack on his reelection at the time, but he didn’t. And after the trial and his son’s conviction, he could have decried the whole thing as a sham, a witch hunt, a rigged system weaponized to attack him at the expense of his son… again, he didn’t. He even went so far as to say he accepted the jury’s decision and would not pardon his son, even though he has the power to do it without anyone being able to stop him.
The charges against Hunter Biden carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison; however, for first time offenders, the reality is that the maximum is rarely used and typically only in the presence of other aggravating factors such as the use of the gun in other illegal activity and the severity of that use (such as murder, etc.) which was not the case here.
Similarly, Donald Trump was also convicted of felony charges…31 more than Hunter Biden but with maximum prison sentences of only 5 years which, like Hunter Biden’s case, is rarely administered in first offense cases. But that is where the similarities end.
“A DICHOTIC THEME EMERGES”
When the two cases are juxtaposed, a dichotic theme emerges, and I’ll get into that shortly, but first, I think any parent will agree that we can give our kids as many tools as they can fit in their toolbox for life on their own, but we cannot make them use it. We may try like hell, but in the end, living on their own is just that…on their own.
So when Hunter Biden descended into drug addiction, I do not think that reflects on President Biden’s parenting skill and certainly not on his presidential character, but when a former President of the U.S. knowingly falsifies financial documents and pays hush money from funds that are not legally allowed to be used for such payments, and then gets caught and prosecuted and found guilty by unanimous decision of 12 jurors, it’s a bit different. This absolutely reflects on his presidential character.
And herein lies the dichotic themes… Trump railed against the entire judicial system, the U.S. laws, the judge, the jury, the prosecutors, the media that reported it in less than favorable ways, and in fact, even railed against his own supporters for not being there during the trial (which then caused many to make cameo appearances to show support near the end of the trial). And after the verdict, he railed again…the system was rigged, the Democrats controlled the jurors, the judge, the flies, the toilets, …wait, that was another rambling of his.. Sorry, I mix up the absurdities sometimes simply due to the sheer volume.
“…NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW”
The point is, one case was handled with humility, dignity, class and integrity, accepting a negative outcome as jurors doing their due diligence and understanding that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, contrasted against the latter case where we see what is best described as campaign rhetoric wrapped in a blanket of feigned moral outrage and a condemnation of everything and everyone associated with it. It is classless, disingenuous, baseless, and devoid of even a modicum of morality.
But all of that is what has become the norm today. Where once our society rejected such childish and dangerous behavior from a leader, a large swath has come to relish it and even promote it as a positive leadership skill. Who knew temper tantrums would be the new leadership profile in America. I know regret correcting my kids. They too could have been the President…whining and stomping their way into the Whitehouse. Welcome to the new Jerry Springer Show on the world stage where we can showcase our leader throwing spaghetti on the Whitehouse wall and busting tv screens because he doesn’t like what a news anchor said about him.
“…CONTORT INTO A SORT OF COGNITIVE PRETZEL…”
And what has happened to all the memes and outrage over the Justice system being rigged against Republicans? Now, because it’s a Biden, all is right with the system? Suddenly, overnight, it transformed into a justice system where justice was doled out appropriately? It is difficult to figure out how these people…many of them intelligent… can reconcile two competing “facts” (as they call them) in their minds. I must give them credit, my mind never had the ability to contort into a sort of cognitive pretzel required to successfully fit all of their “alternative facts” into their head, much less reconcile them.
In this election, we will be electing an old white man. There is no escaping that fact. But will we elect one with a conscience or one without one. Will we elect one with humility and dignity and honor or will we elect the rambling, temper tantrum throwing, childish one who knows nothing of dignity and honor. Will we have a man who lost his first wife a child in a car accident in the midst of starting his political career in the Senate and proceeded to father his kids commuting back and forth to Washington to be with his family or will we choose instead to go with the guy who screwed over the working man buy stealing their labor and paying them pennies on the dollar by filing bankruptcies repeatedly?
“…LOSS OF JOURNALISTIC PROWESS>>>”
By all measures in an intelligent society, this should not even be a close race. The fact that it is close demonstrates a scary devolution of American Society. The fact that we are even entertaining the clown act running the circus after what he did on January 6th is disturbing in and of itself. The fact that the news is so anxious to get clicks on their websites instead of shunning this guy and tamping down the violence producing rhetoric but excluding it or at least minimizing it so that it does not become habituated into the American Psyche speaks to the loss of journalistic prowess.
“OUR DEMOCRACY IS TRULY AT STAKE.”
This election is truly about two individuals that are truly diametrically opposite. There has never been a brighter line drawn between two candidates. And voting for a third or not voting at all or in protest are some of the most unintelligent things a person could do in this election. Vote for who has honestly improved America, not for someone who wants to be a dictator and throw away 250 years of democracy by declaring martial law and removing all of his adversaries and installing a whole new slate of people from the ground up. That is what his plan is. He has embraced the Project 2025 platform from the Heritage Foundation…a conservative think tank that has steered Republican Presidential policy and hiring since Ronald Reagan’s time. It is dangerous to our national identity and our national freedoms. Read it for yourself at https://project2025.org/ Our Democracy is truly at stake. It is not hyperbole.
Remember, an informed citizenry can vote intelligently but the information must be unbiased, so I encourage you to read for yourself the things that the Republicans want to do once Trump (or any Republican President) is elected. You can bury your head in the sand, but that leaves you exposed to a very uncomfortable reckoning.
