The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is unambiguous, Church and State MUST remain separate! The language is succinct and abundantly clear. So why would anyone running for political office in this country think that placing the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, lyrics to the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance, into Christian Bibles and then sell them to raise funds for their candidacy and to pay for mounting legal costs think that would be a good idea???? Religion has NEVER mixed well with government. If you need proof of that, look no further than the theocratic atrocities occurring daily in Iran and Afghanistan. There was good reason for our founding fathers to want to keep religion out of our government. They saw first-hand what government involvement in religion looks like and they wanted no part of it for the new democracy. It is truly amazing how many people can scream about their 2nd Amendment right to have a gun, but never bother to read the one right before that one! And for those Christian believers who are contemplating buying this bible, remember that even Christ knew the importance of keeping Church and State separate. If you read Mark 12:13-17, ” 13 And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to trap him in his talk. 14 And they came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone’s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances,[c] but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” 15 But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why put me to the test? Bring me a denarius[d] and let me look at it.” 16 And they brought one. And he said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.” 17 Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at him.” But whether you are Christian, atheist, agnostic, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish or any other construct of religion or lack thereof, the framers of the Constitution KNEW first-hand that people need to be able to believe what they believe and that no government of, by, and for the people, has a right to step on one set of belief’s for the sake of another religion’s set of beliefs. This most recent sacrilege under the name of God, prayer and country is nothing more than pandering without regard to the actual teachings in the instrument that is being “hawked” to pay for his criminal and civil losses.
When we look at authoritarian governments around the globe…dictators like the late Fidel Castro, Benito Mussilini, Hitler, and more contemporary ones like Kim Jong Un and Xi Jinping, fascinate us from the perspective of wondering why ANY society would allow such rulers to get power, much less to remain in power, and yet, right here is the USA, no less than 20% of Republicans revealed during a recent poll that they are fine with Trump becoming a dictator after he’s elected….TWENTY PERCENT! I guess the Constitution is not the revered document it once was. Trump’s kissing and fondling of the U.S. flag on stage appears to have swayed the most gullible voters into thinking that the Declaration of Independence is little more than a cocktail napkin designed as a place to park your drink and the Constitution is toilet paper to be used when needed, then flushed! It is incomprehensible to any rational human being that we would want the image of the leader of the free world to be a felon; yet, during a recent poll of voters who said they would be voting for Trump in 2024, a full 21% said they believed he had committed at least one felony or serious crime but would still vote for him! It’s impossible to make this stuff up! The GOP historically called itself the law and order party. Now, they call rioters who erected gallows at the US Capitol looking for VP Pence and Speaker Pelosi to literally HANG, beat Capitol Police with American flag poles WITH the flag attached, broke windows and defecated on desks and smeared feces on walls throughout the Capitol building, PATRIOTS and those that went to jail are not just patriots, but HOSTAGES!
It doesn’t matter if you are Democrat, Republican, or Independent….the rule of law was something we could all agree with. The orderly transfer of power was a seamless formality for 250 years….and then came Trump. In 2000, when George W. Bush was selected as President but various independent studies of the so-called “hanging chads” from Florida and other recounts around the country in tight races demonstrated that Al Gore had actually won the election, there was disappointment, but no one ran around the next four years defaming the characters of election officials to the point where their families received death threats routinely, no one rioted the Capitol or beat Capitol Police with flag poles or erected gallows there. Al Gore did the right thing for the country. He conceded the election and stayed quiet about it throughout the next 8 years, choosing instead to teach and to spearhead the climate change movement after seeing what climate change had done to the permafrost in the Artic and in Alaska. In short, he promoted the peaceful transfer of power despite being screwed out of his actual winning for the good of the country and in accordance with our Constitution. He did not have a temper tantrum, throwing spaghetti at the TV and wall in the White House. Or advocate violence. He made a choice to be productive and serve in other ways. Trump has already commented on public workers and those who choose a career of service, saying he feels they are suckers and losers. “What’s in it for them?” is the question he always poses. Why? Because Donald Trump has NEVER done anything out of the goodness of his heart or out of empathy for the suffering of others. Even his dubiously magnanimous act of not taking his $400,000 President’s salary was a sham. He didn’t take that salary, but he made sure his businesses got all the White House’s business totaling the tens of millions of dollars! And he bled his expense accounts dry. According to Title 3 of the US code, a president earns a $400,000 salary and is still on government payroll after leaving office. The president is also granted a $50,000 annual expense account, $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment, and Trump used every penny, every year, including while he has been out of office.
