“Let them eat cake!” is a quote often attributed to Marie Antionette, Queen of France; albeit, incorrectly. It is assumed the quote was attributed to her by revolutionaries trying to stir public sympathy for a revolt by showing her disdain for the plight of the poor while she herself led a lavish lifestyle. It led to her being guillotined for treason during the French Revolution. Today, we don’t need to make up any quotes to be attributed to the leadership. They are more than happy to go on camera and declare their utter contempt for everyday Americans telling us we need to endure some pain. The problem is that the pain we have to endure is so that the rich can once again benefit. Suddenly, the Let them eat cake comment hits a little closer to home. Let’s dive into this a bit more.
Barely 2 months into Trump version 2, and 4 ½ months since the last of what was MANY denials about knowing or agreeing with anything or anyone associated with the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025 (despite his being the keynote speaker at their “Gala” in 2017 and again in 2022, and despite more than 75% of the “contributors” and “authors” of the bulk of the Project 2025 Phase 1 manifesto purporting to be the “playbook” having worked on their contributions WHILE THEY WORKING FOR TRUMP as Whitehouse Advisors, Cabinet members and Senior Staff and getting paid by the American Taxpayers), we now know that those denials were not even thinly veiled lies, but actually bold-faced, piss in your face lies.
Like the many other lies told to his cult followers and the rest of America, like his vow not to touch Medicaid, Medicare or Social Security, we now know his flunky bootlickers masquerading as Congressmen and Congresswomen have introduced his budget priorities, which include but are not limited to, cutting $1.5 Trillion from the budget that he QUADRUPLED in his first term (and Biden had been reducing during his 4 years) to allow for his nearly $5 Trillion INCREASE to the deficit. Oh … but don’t worry. The debt ceiling is no longer important, as long as the REPUBLICANS are in control. It’s only worrisome when a Democrat is in the Whitehouse… then we have to shut down the Government and demand concessions to avert a fiscal crisis.
Meanwhile, Yale University…the alma mater of many of the politicians has just issued a report from their Budget Lab. They looked at the GOP budget and, not surprisingly, discovered that the budget the GOP has put forth will disproportionately affect the poorest Americans.
The report states: “Researchers Harris Eppsteiner and John Ricco explain that the MAGA budget includes a staggering $230 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) over ten years, as well as an $880 billion gutting of Medicaid in the same time span.
While Trump has insisted that he doesn’t want to cut Medicaid, experts agree that there is simply no way to finance the budget plan without such cuts.
‘The overall effect of these three policy changes would be regressive, shifting after-tax-and-transfer resources away from tax units (members of a household filing a tax return together) at the bottom of the distribution towards those at the top,’ they wrote.
‘Tax units at the bottom of the income distribution would see a reduction in after-tax-and-transfer income of 5%, those in the middle of the distribution would see a modest increase of 0.6%, and those in the top five percent of tax units would see an increase of 3%. More than 100% of the net fiscal benefit would accrue to the top quintile,’ they added.
Not in the report is the effect of the loss of income tax revenue from an expected recession and the consequential unemployment exacerbated by the tariff debacle still unfolding and the additional loss of tax revenue if tips and Social Security is no longer taxed. Since 4% of the income tax collected goes to offset payments of Social Security benefits to CURRENT retirees, the reduction will cause the Social Security and Medicare rust Funds to run out 2 years earlier than the projected date of 2032. Once THAT happens, ALL Social Security benefits will be automatically reduced by 24% – 31% INSTANTLY. That means the person with the AVERAGE benefit of $1,944/month or a loss of $467 – $603 each month. And as the final installment of baby boomers start to leave the work force and collect, fewer contributions with greater amounts of withdrawals will reduce the benefits even further. But Trump will say the system is broken and that he didn’t do it. It was someone else…Barrack, Joe, or whoever else’s name he can remember that day.
And this is not the only calamity. American Farmers are being financially hurt by the tariffs on Canada which are increasing the cost of potash by 20% due to those tariffs. At the same time, China canceled all soy orders costing farmers BILLIONS in sales, also because of the tariffs. Moreover, China, like other nations we used to trade with, has found new suppliers like Brazil so that even if, and when, America get’s its head out of its ass, the trade damage is already done. Many nations are finding alternatives to American products which , in turn, will cause US manufacturers to layoff workers.
But it is the farmers that get hurt most of all. They already operate on a very slim profit margin and the double hit they got with canceled sales and higher fertilizer costs means they will be going belly-up. That is especially important to note because the only ones who profit from THAT are the 100 billionaires in this country who have been buying up forests and farmlands and now, they own 2% of all land in the US. Buying distressed farms for pennies on the dollar is EXACTLY what they say they wait for. When asked why they are buying up forests and farmland, 2 of the 100 billionaires doing it said it is because land is a finite supply and once it’s gone, there is no more to be made so having their large pieces of land will be the new wealth in America. Think of that for a moment, 100 people with 2% of this nation’s land … meaning the remaining 330 million share the remaining 98%. IT is obscene. But now it should be clear that the policies of Trump and his band of miscreants are solely for the rich and on the backs of the bottom 40% of the socio-economic strata.
THAT is what happens when you put a billionaire in the Whitehouse who declared bankruptcy 6 times, stiffing his workers and his business associates each time.
