The One Big Beautiful (Atrocity) Bill known as H.R. 1 and passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by ONE vote (and not one Democrat) is currently languishing in the Senate where it has already seen changes that include even more cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, Homeless Veterans, and more.
This bill lights a match to the bonfire of human suffering while simultaneously treating the rich and big corporations to even more tax breaks on the backs of those most in need of help.
Many MAGA and conservative Republicans claim the cuts are earmarked to stop supposed improper payments to illegal immigrants. Not only is this a gross mischaracterization of reality, but it is also a blatant, boldfaced lie. As the charts below clearly show, it disproportionately impacts white elderly and poor. It also reduces tax deductions for middle class families by 75% meaning income tax refund checks for the lower middle class and poor will be demonstrably less while those losses will be transferred as gains to the wealthy. According to multiple estimates, 4% less for the poor and 4% more for the rich. The problem is 4% of $14,000, a reduction of $560, looks like a relatively small amount in actual dollars, but for those poverty level elderly, it is literally the difference between eating or buying medications. Conversely, 4% of a $1million is a gain of $40,000.
And just so we understand WHO qualifies for Medicaid and SNAP, you have to be BELOW 200% of poverty Level or 100% of Poverty Level (depending on the program). The chart to the left shows the exact monthly amounts by size of household for Medicaid eligibility. In other words, If you are a single parent of one, you are allowed to make $1762.50 a month before you are kicked off Medicaid. That’s barely enough to pay rent in the slums. That doesn’t include “luxury” items like clothing, food, water, electric, phone, gas for the car to get to work, childcare while you are at work, etc. God forbid you have the audacity to want to pay for basic cable for you and your child to watch a little tv! So where exactly can you cut?
Also, contrary to claims by Trump and his MAGA sycophants, people typically do not stay on Medicaid or SNAP for their entire lives (except the disabled and the elderly, obviously). Non-disabled, non-elderly adults on average are on for less than two years. Children average less than 5 years. Again, the program is working as it was intended… a safety net to catch those less fortunate until they can get back on their feet.

Under the guise of “waste, fraud and abuse” or “weeding out the illegal immigrants,” Congressional Republicans, in lockstep with Trump and his Heritage Foundation/Project 2025 leaders now occupying Cabinet and Whitehouse Senior Advisor positions, are dismantling EVERY morsel of human dignity and empathy from our geo-political gestalt and unravelling our Democracy thread by thread all while waving the flag in one hand and their trusty bible in the other (even if it is upside down).
I am absolutely sure the MINORITY of Americans that put Trump into the Whitehouse will eventually come to their sense (a large number of them already have), I am equally sure that it ay very well be too late to salvage our democracy. They are so self-absorbed with finding others to blame for their own failures in their life that assuming personal responsibility will be hard to find for them until it slaps them hard in the face. Maybe it will be when their child succumbs to something like measles which was virtually eradicated in this country thanks to vaccines that are currently being downplayed by a moron in charge of the Depart of Heath whose claim to fame is having a great father but who is functioning with a worm-eaten brain and swimming with his young grandchildren in fecal polluted pond clearly marked as unsafe. Maybe it will be when their aging mother or father needs Medicaid for skilled nursing assistance after a fall because they don’t have the Billions in the bank that their Supreme Leader has. Maybe it will be when they themselves get ready to retire and their Social Security benefit is reduced by nearly 1/3rdbecause Trump diverted the 4% of income tax that goes to pay current benefits to giving tax breaks to his wealthy friends and their corporations. Whatever the impetus will be, I am sure it will hit them hard. Unfortunately for them, by the time they are looking for some empathy, everyone else’s “give a damn” will already have been broken and maligned.
WAKE UP AMERICA! YOUR GETTING FLEECED BY A CON MAN AND HIS BUDDIES!
Unless you’re a professional fruit picker, hotel maid, or taxi driver, rest assured, immigrants, legal or not, have NEVER been taking your jobs! Only Trump did that. In hos first term, he disbanded the Whitehouse pandemic response team of scientists and within a year, we were left with NO GUIDANCE on how to deal with Covid. In fact, 250,000 to 300,000 NEEDLESS deaths occurred (depending on the criteria used by different researchers) directly due to Trump’s lack of response for the first 9 months claiming it was like the flu, then claiming it would go away in warm weather, then claiming you could inject bleach or drink disinfectant to kill it ((emergency rooms had a surge in cases after he made those remarks).
We are on track to revisit this again. Viruses will ALWAYS mutate, and animals are typically the original source of them. Studying them is exactly how you learn how to treat them or prevent them. Getting rid of scientists and stopping funding into research is the BEST way to make sure we have no way of protecting Americans. The rich will fly to Europe and get treatment in the next pandemic. You and I are expendable, and this budget PROVES IT.
