Whether we look at Trump’s legal troubles as a landlord in NYC where he was forced to enter into a consent decree for alleged racism in his rental practices in order to keep people of color out of his apartments, or his demand that all toilets that were used by the Obama’s be replaced before he would enter the Whitehouse, or his defending of the White Supremacists that had injured almost 2 dozen people and killed one woman in Charlottesville, VA calling them “…very fine people…”, or his calling the white supremacists and neo nazis and MAGA supporters that stormed the Capital on January 6th on Trump’s urging, “patriots,” one element of commonality emerges… Trump and a large portion of his followers seem drawn to neo-Nazi, white supremacy ideals.
So it is no surprise that his VP pick, J.D. Vance (or whatever his name is this week) and Trump himself, would amplify a completely false story that Haitian immigrants, mostly either naturalized citizens or awarded temporary asylum to escape violence in their country, were stealing family pets like cats and dogs and eating them, while “taking over” a small town called Springfield, Ohio, violently. It didn’t matter that the story was debunked by town officials, including the police chief and the mayor both stating that there were NO complaints of that sort of behavior. Trump and Vance have little time for small details like facts and truth… not when they need political fodder, so, they simply make it up and their cultist sheep follow without question.
The problem with this behavior from two people vying to be the leaders of AMERICA is that their words ignite the crazies who adore them. And so, a mere 2 days after the debate (where Trump got his ass kicked so hard by Kamala Harris, that it landed in his stomach as evidenced by the protrusion, despite his best efforts to control it with a girdle), the town has suffered multiple bomb threats to several buildings including two schools causing emotional stress to young kids who should never have to endure ONE bomb threat, much less multiple ones , all because of a couple of circus clowns running for office put themselves above the best interests of the country and the small towns that comprise it.
Vance should be aware, and clearly, Trump should know by now, especially after dozens of indictments and dozens of convictions, that his words cause issues. Nowhere is this more evident than in that once quiet little town of Springfield, Ohio. The bomb threats and resulting evacuations occurred amid a week of chaos in Springfield as Vance and Trump focus their political rhetoric on the town.
Vance doubled down on his attack on Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio in an X post published about 9:25 a.m. — about 10 minutes before a local Catholic school announced safety threats had forced them to dismiss their students.
“In Springfield, Ohio, there has been a massive rise in communicable diseases, rent prices, car insurance rates, and crime,” Vance wrote. “This is what happens when you drop 20,000 people into a small community. [Vice President] Kamala Harris’s immigration policy aims to do this to every town in our country.” It should be noted that NONE OF THAT IS EVEN REMOTELY ACCURATE, according to the town’s Mayor, police chief, and the Ohio Governor, to name a few who you might suspect would know.
Aside from Vance’s glaring inability to count (immigrant population there is less than 15,000 not 20,000), the town was in a state of decline and had lost a sizable chunk of its population before the immigrants arrived. Their presence allowed factories to reopen and the town is now much better off for it, according to the mayor. But these facts don’t matter. That is not the narrative they need. Constitutional attorney and political analyst Andrew Seidel summed it up best when he wrote: “Donald Trump and JD Vance are terrorizing schoolchildren,” and added, “They are unfit for any public office, let alone the highest.”
And of course, not to be outdone, several conservative groups and influencers also keep pushing the story with videos, many of which feature compilations that have been spread online. In one, for example, one woman at the city commission meeting attended by a Blood Tribe leader (a white supremacist group that has taken up residence in the town now), said she had seen migrants “stealing animals from farmers” and “making some barbaric stew out of the birds that live in our park.”
“I feel like we have been invaded by some sort of pest,” she declared.
A news agency was able to identify the woman, who did not respond to a request for comment. Not surprisingly, according to public records, she does not actually live in Springfield and is from a smaller town, elsewhere, but like so many of Trump’s cultists, why bother with truth and facts when you have such an imaginative mind? Apparently, she had scene a social media post with a Haitian man carrying a dead goose across a Springfied road. He was later identified as a good smaritan who saw the dead goose that had been hit by a car and took it off the road to dispose of it properly… but hey, why quibble over insignificant or inconvenient facts.
At this juncture, I should note that although there have been no cases reported to Springfield law enforcement of animal theft and ingestion by immigrants or locals, there WERE two cases of NATIVE-BORN AMERICANS that were arrested…one in NY State in 2010 and the other in Pennsylvania in 2003. The 2010 incident involved a man whose cat was in his trunk, covered in cooking oil, salt and pepper. When he was pulled over for running a stop sign, the officer found the cat in the trunk and the man admitted the cat was seasoned in preparation for eating it. In the 2003 incident, 150 dogs were discovered on a property in unhealthy conditions. The owner confessed to raising them for eating. I’m not sure if THAT was why J.D. Vance had to change his name again or not, though! After an exhaustive research effort, those two incidents were the ONLY cases found in the continental U.S. of anyone even contemplating eating dogs or cats… and surprise… they weren’t immigrants.
In any case, I’m not sure if Trump picked Vance to act as another side show in his circus act, but if he did, it was genious! Between the two of them, they have the market cornered on inane, outrageous, AND absurd. If these comments were made by ANYONE else, we would expect them to be wrapped immediately in a straight jacket and brought to the nearest mental health facility. But it’s Trump and his VP pick, Vance…. Arguably two of the weirdest people on the planet when it comes to far-fetched claims, and for some reason, they undeservingly get a LOT of latitude by the press.
